The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
Beginning in the fall of 2025, as part of my certification process in Spiritual Direction Supervision, I will be offering voluntary small-stipend* or no-cost supervision to a very small number of both new and experienced
Spiritual Directors.
(*Suggested voluntary stipend $100-$300, which is entirely up to individual supervisees, and is not a requirement.)
Though the certification will be new for me, I have been working in the arena of Spiritual Direction & Companioning, Spiritual Leadership, and Hospice & Grief Support for many years, and have been offering lectures, trainings, workshops and one-on-one facilitation in Spiritual and Artistic Awakening, Communion with Nature, and general Well-Being for groups and individuals since the early 1980's.
I abide by the The Common Code of Ethics for Chaplains, Pastoral Counselors, Pastoral Educators and by Spiritual Directors International's Ethical Guidelines
Ideally, student or accomplished spiritual directors seeking supervision would be interested in working with me from October 2025 through May 2026, meeting once per month. If at any point you, as a supervisee felt that the fit was not right, wished or needed to end the supervision for any reason, you would be most welcome to say and do so. Likewise, if, at the end of the practicum period, you are enjoying our work together and would like to continue, you would be most welcome, though at that point (after May 2026) we would be working on a paying basis.
Supervision sessions are 50 minutes long and may be scheduled through my scheduling portal, via email, text or in conversation at the end of our supervision session.
While my supervision style is naturally relaxed and informal, use of Remembered Dialogue Forms, circle diagrams and others will be a part of some of our work together. I am aware of and happy to accommodate different learning, knowing and sensory styles, and invite artistic, musical and movement expression.
Spiritual directors of all faiths are welcome, and I have worked deeply and joyfully with people on many spiritual paths. I may be particularly suited to those who "color outside the lines", whether stretching the bounds of a faith you were born into, one you have claimed and grown into, or several you find yourself weaving between. Odd as it may seem to some, I have even worked with spiritual directors who consider themselves Agnostic.
I am happy to use specific language for and around the Divine that suits you, just as we, together, will use that which suits your directees, who's sessions (anonymously) we sit compassionately with.
